7/26/07 Committee Meeting Overview

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

* Steve Jacobs agreed to get the ball rolling on the SIG’s traditional booth space at the Austin conference. It’s under new management this year, so things may be a little different. Wendy Despain agreed to be point person for the booth since Steve won’t be able to attend.

* A contract with a publisher is about to be signed for the two books the SIG is working on. This will allow us to finalize contributors. The majority vote was to receive royalties instead of an up-front payment for chapters.

* Stephen Dinehart was unable to attend the meeting, but Andy Walsh is working on a formal letter to send to Moby and IMDB about listing/correcting credits for writers.

* Dean Wall is starting the ball rolling on the writing contest. He’ll be looking for input from the SIG at large and some legal advice too.

* Andy Walsh submitted a draft of a new five year plan for the SIG. It will soon be available on the wiki for comment and editing. It’s a work of beauty and a wonder to behold.

* Sande Chen is moving ahead with the Hiring Hall initiative, working with Kim to get a student involved.

* Our August meeting will be held on the 23rd so as to have a little time for organizing for the Austin conference in September.

* Plans are also progressing for a new issue of the SIG Quarterly to be produced for Austin GDC and distributed widely there.
