6/28/2007 Committee Meeting Overview

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

* The book projects continue apace. A publisher will be chosen and contracts should be signed before the June meeting. The project lead is sorry this part of the process is taking so long.

* A new officialish position in the SIG was created - Credits Committee Liason - because IGDA already has a great committee working on this very important topic, and writers as a whole care deeply about it. Yet we’re not currently doing a great job of working together with that committee. Stephen Dinehart volunteered to take on this job, and we look forward to better collaboration in the future. Thanks Stephen!

* Dean Wall has volunteered to “executive produce” a Writing SIG-sponsored game writing contest. This is in its very early stages, so if you’d like to be involved in the planning, keep an eye on this mailing list.

* Andy Walsh is still constructing the SIG’s 5 year plan for taking over the world. If you have ideas or comments about what this SIG should be, and how we should get there - he’d love to hear your thoughts.

* The larger organization the writing SIG is a part of (http://www.igda.org) is gearing up to update their web software and bring it into the Web 2.0 world. As a SIG we’ll be able to take advantage of these upgrades, but nothing has been decided on yet. Aprox timeline before anything on this happens - about 3 months.

* Kim Sparks is bringing Write Club to the FuturePlay conference in November. For those of you not familiar with it - Write Club is like Fight Club, but with writing. And prizes.

* Steve Jacobs is still working on building an online library of game docs/scripts so we can all share and learn. He’s coordinating this with the Education SIG. Ping him if you’ve got material to add to the library or would like to help construct it.
